Wow. RIP, August. I saw she was getting dragged on twitter pretty bad.
In light of what's been going on here lately, if I may be so bold, what was the subject (not the details) of her tweet?
She backed out of a scene with a crossover performer and tweeted out that the company had hired a crossover performer. She didn't mention his name. However, tons of people, including performers, gay and GG in straight porn were going in on her about discrimination and whatnot.
I am sorry, but what is a crossover performer? I never heard that before.
She should have told them to F*** off.
In a risky business such as porn everyone should decide how much risk they are willing to expose themselves to, and not apologize that they have limits.
I know that female porn stars are not known for their ego integrity, but it is such a joke to treat anything on Twitter seriously (let alone kill yourself over it).
I had a funny feeling it was going to be something like that, where she said something "offensive" and as usual with a majority of people on Twitter they overreacted. Like I said another thread, being on the receiving end of social media mob justice is a dangerous thing.
RIP August.
It was mentioned that the gay side of porn has different testing protocols; she and another performer implied that working with “crossover” perfor, era would put them more at risk for disease and such. Folks on that side of porn felt attacked.
“Straight” performers such as Jessica Drake disagreed. One of her tweets:
One tweet that many are calling out is this one by Jaxton Wheeler. He has since locked his profile because he’s REALLY being hammered. Dude just might get blacked-balled over this.Quote:
performers, by all means, fuck who you want to fuck...
but if you're eliminating folks based on the fact they they may have done gay or crossover work, your logic is seriously flawed.
reality is, WE DON'T KNOW who does what with whom when there are no cameras.

It’s a mess. Obviously I’ll stand with trans performers, but of course I saw where August was coming from. Her body; her rules. Many felt that her original tweet was worded wrong.
I think she should have kept her mouth shut,
Just said she doesn't want to work with this guy,
The gay scene is a very highly sensitive entity now.
Taking shit about can get you in a world of hurt.
She was beautiful and only 23 years old. :( So damn sad. :(
The odd thing is some of the female performers that came at August have been in the industry for years refuse to do interracial, yet they want to talk about discrimination. Wheeler deserves his dragging. I looked up his twitter and he said he would never encourage someone to harm themselves, yet....
Was reading the post and assumed it was faked, but holy shit. She's actually dead, allegedly due to homophobic comments.
RIP August, so young too.
Ben - with respect, you're making assumptions here. You don't know 'the pressure got to her' at this point, or if she was previously suicidal or had other things going on in her life. It's a very sad circumstances but I think we need to have more information. The tweets got pretty bad, but she also tweeted out some pretty horrible stuff.
I was following this as it was happening. I don't think a 'discussion' on this is really in anyone's interest other than those who are trying to create a platform to stand on, on what is a tragedy.
The discussion that needs to be had, and I'm guilty of this also, is why social media becomes such a battleground. I've had online fights with people - and I did make a statement about August. Without a moderator, and with people who don't have any input into the industry other than being fans, then the situation builds. There were some pretty crude and nasty things said about the gay performers, and there were some pretty nasty responses to that. When people get attacked they attack back and it gets out of hand. Did anybody really mean that someone should commit suicide, I don't know? But having been on the end of death threats from some of the SJW's, and being told to kill myself, it's not a nice feeling. Some people may not be equipped to handle that - and what we should remember, is that these are YOUNG people we're dealing with.
I don't think Jessica Drake said anything on-toward or particularly nasty, but she seems to have been picked out. Aspen Brooks also has been targeted by simply being the last person August responded to.
I've actually muted some people who are using this as a platform for other issues.
What's needed is for people to have more respect for others - but also, to shut the fuck up sometimes. If you don't want to work with a performer because of their sexuality, their race, their look, what-the-fuck-ever, then address that to the producer and refuse the shoot. Someone else will do it, who is more comfortable. You don't need to make a statement or try and rally people to you, on social media. Just go about your business and work towards the next shoot. Are you going to get less work offered? Possibly, but that's the choice you made by being more selective - and it may work for, or against you.
We also need a forum where people talk face-to-face, instead of screaming over a few words typed out. That's maybe something that can be looked at.
Those working in the industry, models, industry, photographers, whomever - there is a new private forum at TSChatter.com specifically for this sort of thing.
At the least, it is noted that she suffered from depression even before porn. From twitter posts made earlier in the year, people had feared she was suicidal for other reasons(although this does not exactly prove it). So it does appear she had a history of indicators of calling for help.
Maybe all the assholes that bullied her should have kept THEIR mouths shut! You ever think of that? I bet some that bullied her could give a flying fuck about the gay community. They just want to take out their angry pathetic lives on someone else. No one has a clue today when it comes to dishing out hateful bullshit to an individual. Everyone looks for any reason to lash out or to find a 'hidden meaning' to accuse. And now they find out she had a history with depression. Yeah, they fucking found that out the hard way didn't they?
Well she said some pretty horrible things also, so it wasn't all one-way or bullying from what I was watching. That doesn't make it right or wrong, but when people are attacked with vitriol then often they would respond the same way and I think everyone here as probably been guilty of that. There was no need for her to make her statement which didn't read well.
Why shouldn't she have been concerned? A guy with that kind of resume, she had the right to say no and back out. Her mistake, she took it to social media. RIP
Only on social media. The high majority would say absolutely NOTHING if face to face with that person. That's the cowardly cruel world we live in. Again, I still won't defend those bullies in any way, regardless of the supposed 'attack'.
And August even apologized for the tweet and that only made people bully her more. So, tell me once again, if you're going to attack someone, then you're going to attack back. No, you're going to attack simply because it makes you feel better about yourself regardless of how shitty it makes others feel.
Then you're being disingenuous and choosing one 'bully' over another. This isn't about defending people, you're adding to the situation.
Social media is an issue, and I think the industry needs to take itself away from being so open in front of those who are not in the industry and have more face-to-face attacks.
How am I choosing one bully over another? Someone states an opinion and they're a bully to a genre of the industry? But, if it was an opinion you supported you'd call it freedom of speech!
At the end of the day, the blood is on the bullies hands. How you can see if differently blows my mind.
"Ames posted on Twitter over the weekend that she would not be working with a man “who has shot gay porn,” adding, “I do my homework for my body.” The tweet drew a lot of attention from people calling her homophobic, an accusation she denied. Monday she tweeted that none of her intentions were malicious and she was simply looking out for her own health."
Oh yes, such an attack that deserves being bullied to death. Ridiculous!!
it's really weird that people think they should have a voice when it comes to who someone else fucks.
was kind of surprised how many gay performers left such disparaging comments on her feed. i thought gay actors were into performing in gay porn. are they now looking to do crossover scenes or is this a unique situation?

Also, the additional reason people came at August was that she said they don't follow the same testing procedures as the straight side, as far as frequency tested and some studios not requiring testing at all.
Even weirder she was bisexual, but I guess that Bi is not part of LGBTQ. Carless words spoken cannot be taken back and no amounts apologizes or rational will justify things when they result in harmful actions.
LGBTQ is just a bunch of sub-communities lumped together for the social justice aspect. Lots of them want nothing to do with each other. Hell, trans women are nasty as hell to other trans women often because one may not be as feminine/far into their transition as the rest. LGBTQ is just as intolerant as everyone else.
