RIP Peanuts...again...
Just got the word that Peanuts at Tempo is no more. Since I never went due to work (I work nights), I have no memories of the place. I'm sure the rest of you do though.
For now it's MJs on Mondays, TGirl Tuesdays at Hamburger Mary's Long Beach (new location!), Transfix at Cobra on Thursdays, and Oxwood on Saturdays.
Dammit Los Angeles...what has happened to the scene?!

Re: RIP Peanuts...again...
I think the same thing that happened in Las Vegas and the LV Lounge. It seemed all the girls in both cities used to make the scene at the Lounge or Peanuts in their respective cities. Now alot of those girls have gotten older and don't out as much or have moved on with their lives. The younger girls hit the straight clubs more often than going to the TS featured clubs. When this happens, the male clietele tends to follow. Less girls in the TS clubs = less drink paying patrons = decreasing profit in operating a TS themed evening.

There is truth to this.

Re: RIP Peanuts...again...
The math works. Stick a fork in it.

Re: RIP Peanuts...again...
Maybe Peanuts are just out of season.
Seriously though, I'm hearing that the search for a new location has already begun. Be patient!

Re: RIP Peanuts...again...
I went last week, connected with a girl I'd met once or twice before- glad I did.
Didn't particularly like hanging out at SM and western, though.

Re: RIP Peanuts...again...
I don't know LA well but when I have been I have found it tiresome to navigate the city -is it the case that one club will never been really huge because people are so spread out across LA that most of the time many can't be bothered to drive to wherever it is and then drive all the way back? At least in San Francisco there are a few places not far from each other...

LA is like having cities inside of cities. It's a vast geographical territory. You could always rent out the Cecil Hotel and throw a haunted hotel party. I think the place is held together with cum and blood.

The fact LA IS spread out is why I love the city.

Re: RIP Peanuts...again...
I'm still somewhat baffled about why we don't have more places to go here in SoCal, especially now that Peanuts is closing again. I've read the theories on here and they all seem to have legs somewhat, however it doesn't seem like NY shares in these issues? Now I haven't actually been to NY so I am just going what I read on here and the party updates I see, but there seems to be a thriving TG scene/community in NY. I always thought we had the same thing out here, but there seems to be a big discrepancy between the two cities?

Re: RIP Peanuts...again...
Damn! So sorry to hear this news. I was planning on going there this week. I had been to Tempo several times, but not their Peanuts night. Peanuts in W. Hollywood was great in it's day.
Regarding the area of Santa Monica Blvd. & Western Ave. I live a mile from there and it isn't a bad area of town. Many people are afraid, because it is a lower socio-economic area with a lot of immigrants. It really isn't that bad. A little grit is good for us all.

Re: RIP Peanuts...again...
There might NEVER be another Peanuts at Club 7969 that's better than the original. We've tried (and Cobra 1.0 came close), but no bueno so far.

You may be right Ben. However I have faith in the near future.

If you want some grit let me tell you about a club we go to that's in an area of NYC which could be described in the same way.
Lucho's club is in Queens, which is part of NYC proper but outside of Manhattan...it's right next to a main drag called Roosevelt ave. that has an overhead train, which gives it an even darker (and noisier) feel. Latin immigrants from Mexico and all over Central and South America come to the area when they immigrate (legally or otherwise).
Lucho's is basically a gay club but it's always been TG friendly. They don't have TG nights per se, it just seems to be the popular place where trans girls go to see, be seen, and hook up. A lot of these girls escort and on some nights it's as if most of Queens Backpage is there partying.
Many girls who dance at the clubs in Manhattan ultimately end up at Lucho's, since a lot of them also live in the vicinity. In general, these girls escort on the DL, meaning you won't find them on BP or anyplace else. But you can hook up with them at the Manhattan parties ($$$) or at Lucho's ($).

Lucho's does have a small stage for drag shows and birthday celebrations which sometimes are good, but they don't have TG's dancing on poles or anything like that although I wish that they would. Of course the girls hit us up all the time for drinks but we've instituted a "drink and kink" rule, which basically means a girl gyrates on your lap when you buy her one.
Check out this pic to get the general feel...I call it "Walker and Chaser".

Re: RIP Peanuts...again...
getting a TS club going is quite easy. Buddy Wood could do in less than 2 months. You simply have to get the girls to go and the guys follow. Give the girls an incentive to show up - no cover, free drink ticket, not allowing cops in, etc and they will come. It's really not that hard to do.
Advertising on backpage, eros, and other places girls and their admirers look at on the internet also helps. Getting girls to tweet to their followers about specific places and times.
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to open up a neighborhood bar/club that's TS friendly and try to make it work. Maybe one day....

Agreed. And everywhere you turn in LA- any Hollywood (N, W, regular), any LA (E, W, SC), the industrial sections from Culver heading south- there are these incredibly beautiful gardens and yards.
We have oases wild with tropicals and water features; there are desert landscapes of rock, sand and succulents. My favorite are the grandmas who go all out and still have a riot of blooms today, just days from the December solstice.
Any block, any community.
And for me it isn't the people. I just find it particularly bleak at that specific corner (worse at St. Andrews.)
Never felt like it isn't "safe" there, but I'm the wrong person to comment on that. I generally feel comfortable wherever.

Re: RIP Peanuts...again...
Blah, blah, blah.
So more to the point: still nothing on a Friday night in LA?

Re: RIP Peanuts...again...
I hate to sound like a broken record but as long as these "TS Clubs" are dominated by "Working Girls" as they are today, the scene will continue to die.
The reason the original Peanuts aka 7969, and Cobra 1.0 were so successful and fun was (and I've hung out at both), you could talk to the girls, have fun, hang out, get drunk, have a good time and maybe actually find a "girlfriend" or get lucky. Sure, there were working girls there too, but it wasn't like it is now.
Now, it's all focused predominantly around girls who are all about business. Sure you could fill up a club with a bunch of working girls and the creepy tricks follow, but it drives away girls who don't work as escorts, and the regular guys who aren't looking for prostitutes.
Makes for a pretty boring scene if you ask me and the main reason why these clubs are dying.

On any given night Avalon is a decent bet.
Never seen a lot of girls there at once randomly, but I went with my ex and her friends all the time.

Re: RIP Peanuts...again...

Just a thought: you may be doing it wrong.
I feel you on the Friday night thing.
I just want to hang out, and I don't want to wait until Saturday.
I'm sure as hell not driving to Long Beach or the Valley.
