    Default workplace privacy

Anyone who works for corporate america knows the drill. Do not use the company network for viewing porn, sending harrassing emails, even just chatting with your friend on messenger is frowned upon now. Telephonics is also montitored nowadays and most companies reserve the right to conduct random searches and will even to listen to voice mail when warranted. What rights does the employee have? Obviously the protection of the company is number one priority but when is it that they go to far?

too far? : Never. Management is NEVER wrong. Of course if you don't like that you can initiate a hostile take over bid and buy them out (kind of expensive)

With all of the things that management (MGT/Midget) can and will do to shorten your life and lengthen the bottom line, some do try to give you a little slack.

I work for a government agency. Every time you boot up or log on to one of their computers, whether networked or not (And this includes barcode scanning devices), there is a very prominent, very clear, very easily understood message on the screen that begins "This device is the property of [name of agency], yada, yada, yada (Legalese), and there should be no expectation of privacy".

If you are so anxious to get a wank off at lunch time (Or worse, during working hours) that you can't grasp the meaning of this very clear statement of policy (Which blatantly mentions monitoring/spy software programs that are in use), then you're too fucking stoopid to hold the job.

Playing chitty-chat on AIM is akin to yammering on the office phone or your cell while on company time. It's just bad form, if you take your job seriously (If you don't, get another job!). Some companies, where cube farms are the norm, allow AIM/chat on company time, but will monitor it (Again: It's usually made clear that there should be no expectation of privacy).

Any business owner or manager will tell you that employee productivity is key to success. I know one guy that does an eight-hour job in four to six (But is paid for eight). Yay for him, he gets paid well. Another does the same job, but takes ten to twelve hours. He thinks he is grossly underpaid and overworked, but it has been proven, in several cases, that the same job can be done in less than eight hours or better. How well could he do his job if he was surfing HA all afternoon and yammering away with one or more of the gurls in PM or on Userplane?

Hell, Seanchai's people get to be productive =AND= watch porn.

I sooooo hate them right now.

I work for a bank and almost got fired for accessing my off-shore gambling account to place a bet on a college basketball game that had an early start time.
    big freakin deal, right.
but it was OK for my supervisor to organize sell Super Bowl boxes

I view porn all the time on my work computer, more then I do at home. I also yell at the general managers frequently and demand that they give me large sums of money to implement absurd projects.

I couldn't imagine working in a traditional corporate environment, I'm certain I'd get fired.
