Re: Kaitlyn Gender
I had to use google to know what you were talking about, as I don't own a TV. The car crash thing seems like pure gossip that any celeb could go through.
As for Lauren Hill, the dumb thing about the "ESPY courage award" is that there a so many people do good brave things that it is kind of ridiculous to give it to only one person. Awards like that turn doing the right thing into a rat race with winners and losers. That being said fox news is attacking her the way they would not attack someone else who one that award for different reasons.
And for those who say it doesn't take any courage to out and proud as trans, I'm currently being harassed on facebook. On my personal (not porn connected but strictly personal) account someone is reporting all of my public pics (most profiles and cover photos) as containing nudity. Then the photo is reviewed, as it has no nudity it stays on my account. http://i.imgur.com/XVOOtOG.png

Re: Kaitlyn Gender
Can we just stop discussing the ESPYs. It is an AWARDS SHOW hosted by ESPN, part of the disney klan.
The ESPYs are not important. They are not a Presidential Medal or Nobel Prize. An ESPY is an award given based on popularity of the moment. Their choices are not daring, they simply follow the pulse of the public and give awards that get them press outside of the ABC/Disney realm. I'm sure Tiger Woods would give back every ESPY for one more major win. I'm sure Lance Armstrong would give back every ESPY for 1 title back. I'm sure the scott family would give the ESPY back for 1 more minute with Stuart.

Re: Kaitlyn Gender
none the less...it is not an award that carries with it much social, economical or political worth.
Scott won the Jimmy V award which fits...perseverance.
Jenner won the Arthur Ashe Courage award...which to me, is just a popular choice. Michael Sam is arguably a more deserving recipient in 2014. He risked getting blackballed in the NFL to come out. There may have been a better choice than Sam too in 14, but comparing 14 and 15, Sam deserved the award more in 14 than Jenner did in 15. Caitlyn, while transitioning is clearly not easy at all, has money and fame on her side already which has made her road far FAR easier than the average transwoman.
Hill won a bullshit award for best moment. The award itself carries less weight than the other extant awards ESPN gives out based on sports dominance or the Jimmy V or Arthur Ashe award. All the honorary awards are just based on who is hot in the press.

Re: Kaitlyn Gender
To understand why the ESPY's gave it to Jenner over Hill, or Kimberly Howe, it's easy. Ratings. ESPN is a TV network, with an emphasis on sports. Kimberly Howe was a 69 year old woman whose only connection to sports was that she bought a house from Brett Saberhagen (a former MLB pitcher). Lauren Hill got screwed by them giving it to Stuart Scott the year before. Give it to her, it suddenly becomes the "person with cancer" award, no big deal, predictable, ratings decline. Cynical? Yeah, but its a crap awards show with no actual process as to who they give that particular award to.
The ESPY thing is such a bullshit discussion. I cringe whenever someone mentions it. You might as well be fighting over red or blue, which is better? Someone got an award because a guy at the network said we can't give the award to cancer victims 2 years in a row, who else do we have? The answer was not much, and the only remaining choice helped them get a ratings bump since they were already in the news, which is probably all that ESPN really cared about. It's a meaningless award, for a meaningless show, for a station rapidly loosing its influence. There are so many other relevant things that could be talked about, the ESPY's, really?
Jus wookin puh nub.
