Canada's Supreme Court strikes down anti-prostitution laws
OTTAWA - The Supreme Court of Canada struck down all current restrictions on prostitution on Friday, including bans on brothels and on street solicitation, declaring the laws were unconstitutional because they violated prostitutes' safety.
The sweeping 9-0 decision will take effect in one year, inviting Parliament to try to come up with some other way to regulate the sex trade if it chooses to do so.

Good for Canada. It seems like they actually use their brains over there.

Re: Canada's Supreme Court strikes down anti-prostitution laws
It's a start, but the gov't has 1 year to make new laws. Kinda doubt we're going to be progressive enough for full legalization, but the 9-0 decision by the Supreme Court judges does tell the gov't that it has to go that way eventually.

Re: Canada's Supreme Court strikes down anti-prostitution laws
The key part is IF Parliament chooses to re-write the laws. They could theoretically decide to do nothing and we'd have a situation similar to our abortion law - That is to saw, we have no abortion law. But I suspect we will see something given the Conservative government fought the Ontario Courts decision to the Supreme court. Our Conservatives are different than yours in the States. Sure there are some social Conservative Members of Parliament who are against abortion and gay marriage, but as long as Stephen Harper is leader an Prime Minister, he will crush any attempt to re-open the debate on those subjects, and has done so repeatedly.

IDK exactly how this all will work out but I would venture to say that if it does become completely legal, a massive sex tourism industry will flourish, like Bangkok west...90 minutes NYC to Toronto, it's already a fun place.
