Here's an interesting (detailed) article that shows a 1967 letter written by the Producer to the Costume Designer indicating the different chest insignia designs for each ship was an error in TOS:

I felt it met my expectations. Just enough action as they developed the characters.

I was not impressed with the new look Klingon. There was absolutely no reason for the redesign. As for the the Klingon ships, hate them, they should have kept them canon. Klingon ships have looked the same from the Star Trek: Enterprise straight through to Star Trek: Voyager. I also think uniforms should have been kept canon. For that time every ship had it's on chest insignia design. The delta was not made the Starfleet symbol until after Kirk's 5 year mission. The uniforms should have looked like they did in the pilot of TOS. Also, I liked the fed ships but they should have been more like the TOS ships.

I think it is a good start.

or do you mean the mirror shot - which was straight out of a horror movie. and interesting to see what they do with it (i guess mirror universe storyline coming up..)

i am enjoying discovery hugely. probably my favourite after the original series. though it is missing a shatner/brooks scene chewing ott ham actor in it.

i can't believe they had two hot female kick arse characters and have managed to get rid of them in 4 episodes. leaving us with mostly snippy blokes.

for the life of me i can't see a reason why they have made this a prelude to 'kirk tiime' as now i want to know why spock never mentioned a half sister, why no has ever mentioned the mushroom drive. the recent inclusion of harry mudd just adds to that.

Yes it's an incredible series!
And as usual, the loudest folks are the disgruntled ones.....
