Re: R.I.P. Stephen Hawking
In addition to the contributions that Hawking made to science, it should be obvious that he also became a hugely important figure for disabled people proving that the most severe physical limitations on life need not prevent that life from expressing its potential.
And yet disabled people continue to suffer everyday obstacles that a little money and a lot of consideration would solve, be it in transport or gaining entrance to a public building. Just as obvious is that he was unable to function without a corps of dedicated people from family, medical staff and organizers, though he could be an irritating pest if he did not get his way, but that may not be surprising in those circumstances.
So, as I have no expertise in the hard sciences, appreciation of which I shall leave to others to articulate, I offer his view of the NHS in the UK as a fitting legacy of his non-scientific contribution to our lives:
It is Britain’s finest public service and a cornerstone of our society, something that binds us together. People value the NHS, and are proud that we treat everyone equally when they are sick. The NHS brings out the best in us. We cannot lose it.

Re: R.I.P. Stephen Hawking
A true giant of a man who was never restricted by physical boundaries and gave far more to the world than he ever took. If only we were all like that the world would be a better place.

Good-bye Stephen. Your goal ("...understand the universe completely...") will forever be ours.

Re: R.I.P. Stephen Hawking
Hawking's book has to be the oldest paperback I have on my shelves, normally I give my paperbacks away, but I keep trying to convince myself I'll open it up and grasp it all one day. Most kids probably know him from his appearances on "The Big Bang Theory"
