my middle school music teacher was south african and she would tell us stories about how they would have uzis to protect their home and stuff

No South Africans are not predominately white. The apartheid was white and took over the country for a while but the population is still african. This is the reason Nelson Mandella was imprisoned. Whoever told you South Africa is predominately white is an idiot. I have been there a few times and can tell you first hand. Some people here need to get a passport and start seeing the world a bit. Here are the statistics....

Until 1991, South African law divided the population into four major racial categories: (1.) The Black Africans, of which the Nguni and Sotho groups account for 90% of the Black population. Black population accounts 75% of the South Africa's entire population. (2.) The Whites who account for about 13% of the population. (3.) The Indians who account for around 3 % and (4.) the Coloreds who are mixed White and Black descent and account for 9% of the population. Although the South African law of racial categories has been abolished, many South Africans still view themselves according to these categories.

One need not travel to a country in order to learn about it. Books, newspapers and the internets are a great source of information. I've never been to North Korea, but I do know that it is a totalitarian nation where many are on the verge of starvation.
