A word on STEINBRENNER
George Steinbrenner passed away today one week after his 80th birthday. I'd be surprised if there are people who aren't at least vaguely aware of who he was, even among those who don't follow sports.
You can love him or hate him but one thing about him is a given.... he had zero tolerance for losing. ZERO. If he hired you to play for him it meant you were in an elite class of athlete second to none, and your life would be miserable if you failed.
George would get pissed and routinely rip his players in the press. My favorite line was when he called Dave Winfield "Mr May".
Winfield said on ESPN today that years later George apologized to him for the remark, and that his years playing for the Yankees were the best memories of his career.

Best thing to happen to the Yankees and Baseball. R.I.P. to the Greatest Owner Ever.

I cannot believe how little I have really seen on his death.
Two posts on here and in the Sports area to boot. I know this is not porn or TS related but I expected to see more. Bunch of cats from NYC on here after all.

Not really Ed. Especially since MMA dominates this folder.

Steinbrenner could have two biographies written and one would be great and one would be not so great. He definitely was both sides of the coin. RIP, George.

It has been a tough week for Yankee fans first Bob Sheppard the voice at Yankee stadium, then George Steinbrenner the Boss. Both had impacted the world of baseball in their own way and made the New York Yankees a recongized baseball team around the world. To both Bob and George RIP you will be missed!

good Steinbrenner story told by former Yankee/ Met David Cone
Kenny Rogers was a pitcher George spent a boatload on who didn't exactly perform up to expectations. Before an important late September start, the Boss showed up in the clubhouse and went to a food table filled with pre-game snacks. Picking up a strawberry, he waved it in front of Rogers' face and said ' if you don't get it done tonight you'll be back in Florida picking these like your old man'
Rogers got lite up and the Yankees lost. Not everyone responded well to pressure from the Boss
